Overview
As an industrial design intern at Tata ClassEdge, I and my batchmate were assigned with a project to study and redesign Tata ClassEdge's premium offering, the 'X Center Prime', an interactive classroom device that was deployed in multiple private and government schools around Mumbai.
The project entailed carrying out design research, mainly primary and secondary research, ideations, conceptualisation, visualisation and rapid prototyping. Schools were visited, and the users (teachers and schoolchildren) were interviewed, observed interacting with and using the X Center Prime. To help understand the manufacturing processes of the X Center Prime, their manufacturing and product assembly unit was also visited.
It was observed that the existing product had room for improvement in terms of accessibility, both in physical product and its digital application, aesthetics, and manufacturing materials.
As a result, a sleeker and more unified design made of alternative lightweight materials was proposed as a concept, which was appreciated and accepted by the Tata ClassEdge's product development team.
